John McDonough

Managing Director

Managing Director Since 2000, John M. McDonough has been in the industry and he brings and innovative, entrepreneurial approach to Cool Springs Financial.

John has worn many leadership hats in his career.  He’s been a Divisional Vice President at a big box firm, charged with recruiting, training, and leading other advisors while maintaining a successful personal business.  He also works as an independent financial advisor, free from any corporate agendas that sometimes drive profitability at the expense of what is right for the client.  He has experienced and operated at the different ends of the financial spectrum.

In his business planning practice, John helps business owners, executives, key employees with strategies for tax mitigation, employee retention, bonus structures, etc all designed with minimal cost to the company.  In his personal finance practice he helps clients overcome their concerns about stock market volatility, rising taxes, saving enough to last the duration of their retirement and more.  He created the Future Creation Process, Money Without Doubt and Retirement Without Doubt personal finance systems, designed to help address financial concerns and create a workable plan to eliminate doubts and increase confidence in money and retirement.  He authored his first book entitled How to Give Your Child a 4-Year Education Without Going Broke.  He is currently authoring his second book Money Without Doubt.

John has learned a lot over his many years in the insurance business, and he brings creativity and unsurpassed knowledge of our industry to our team and his clients.  He understands what it takes to run a day-to-day business while never losing sight of the bottom line.  John takes pride in finding smart and unique solutions to help his clients maximize wealth for their family or business.

He has furthered his education by taking finance courses at both the Wharton School of Business and Rice University, where he has completed the necessary coursework for the well-respected CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation. John graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. He was also twice honored as the Manager of the Year with his previous firm.

In addition to his role at Cool Springs Financial, John is a member of New First Financial Resources, LLC (FFR) and is honored to have been elected by his peers and fellow members to serve as the current Chairman of the Board.  In FFR’s 40-year history, John is the youngest member to be elected to serve as Chairman of the Board.  Prior to his recent election, he sat on FFR’s Board of Directors for the previous 5 years.  John also belongs to several other financial membership groups including the Society of Financial Service Professionals (FSP), and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA),  all esteemed organizations with the goal of educating members in the latest financial practices and upholding the highest industry standards.

John has demonstrated an excellence in his field through his continued invitations to the Million Dollar Round Table – Top of the Table as well as the Forum 400, both exclusive organizations honoring financial professionals who have reached commendable professional benchmarks.

John’s commitment to business ethics is reaffirmed through his fiduciary client first approach.

John married his high school sweetheart, Edna, and the two are proud parents of their beautiful daughters, Eliana and Evelyn.  In his spare time, John loves to golf, cycle and workout.  He is a former semi-professional soccer player and a three-time participant in the BP MS 150 Houston to Austin bike tour benefiting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  He is also involved in the Prince of Peace Catholic Church as well as the Northwest Bible Church.
